Natural Resource Technology, an O'Brien & Gere Company (NRT) is seeking an Environmental Data Specialist/Steward with 2 to 5 years of relevant experience based out of our Chicago, IL or Milwaukee, WI office.  The successful candidate will work with our Geospatial and Database Solutions (GDS) team, and interact with a diverse group of engineers and scientists across our network of offices. This position supports day-to-day management of our environmental data, requiring high proficiency in MS Access and Excel in the planning and execution aspects of data management and reporting. This role requires well-developed organization skills to ensure reporting is accurate, on time, and meets company standards and client needs.

Essential Position Functions:

  • Communicate with project managers to determine objectives of data needs
  • Ability to ensure work product is consistent, accurate, and follows standard procedures
  • Manage data flow from field to lab to database import phase, including standardization of EDD (Electronic Data Deliverable), adding field sample information, and quality checking data for database import
  • Perform database maintenance after data has been imported to database system
  • Create and design custom queries in MS Access and SQL server to efficiently update and run quality checks on datasets
  • Perform database pulls in crosstab formats to meet project team deliverables
  • Screen data against agency-specific action limits to identify exceedances
  • Format table exports in standardized formats for project deliverables
  • Demonstrate efficiency in problem-solving to satisfy client and team needs
  • Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and work quality

 Required Experience/Skills:

  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • High proficiency in MS Access and Excel
    •  Demonstrated ability to run queries for data manipulation in MS Access
    •  Advanced formula and macro programming ability in MS Excel
  • Experience working with environmental analytical data
  • Solid understanding of analytical chemistry principals
  • Demonstrated ability to shift focus and prioritize in a fast-paced setting and working with multiple client requirements
  • Understanding of field collection methodologies (e.g., soil, groundwater, sediment, vapor samples)

 Desired Experience:

  • Experience with Envirodata, Equis, ArcGIS, SQL Server
  • Data Validation
  • Working knowledge of federal, state and local environmental regulations. Experience working with regulatory agencies

 Basic Qualifications:

  • BS/BA environmental sciences, chemistry, or IT related field
  • Requires long periods of sitting and manipulation of PC accessories and software; capability to discern color on a monitor.
