Natural Resource Technology, an O'Brien & Gere Company (NRT) is seeking a Hydrogeologist with 8 to 12 years of relevant experience based out of our Chicago, IL or Milwaukee, WI offices. The successful candidate will have a proven record in technical and project management and will work with and lead diverse teams of scientists and engineers across our network of offices. The individual should be able to apply their expertise to an array of media (e.g., vadose zone, sediment, soil, groundwater surface water interface), contaminants (e.g., inorganics, organics, and chlorinated solvents), and sources (e.g., coal combustion products, manufactured gas plants, chemical industry). This position is technical in nature, focused on supplementing existing technical services at an experience level fostering strength in one or more of our services area teams and our site characterization and analysis practice group. The primary duties of the hydrogeologist will be to guide and assist clients in the development and implementation of environmental needs through communication with agencies and team members, preparation of proposals, and development of effective written technical reports. Qualified candidates will have strong technical professional/client relationships and extensive project management experience with demonstrated abilities to:

  • Use well developed critical thinking abilities for data analysis and group participation for report completion based on evaluation of environmental data and application of regulatory criteria.
  • Evaluate geologic and hydrogeologic sites (e.g., geologic/hydrogeologic cross sections, conceptual site models, contaminant maps) and design of site characterization activities in support of remedial investigation and design
  • Evaluate and apply risk-based screening levels (e.g., soil, groundwater, sediment, vapor)
  • Participate and/or lead multidisciplinary teams on complex and challenging evaluations
  • Evaluate hydrogeologic contaminant fate and transport, preferred skill
  • Manage projects at the PM level, including tracking of milestones and deliverables with strong ability to prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Communicate effectively with differing audiences (client, regulator, contractor, public) verbally and written
  • Prepare proposals reflecting understanding of client needs, development of budgets and cost estimates, and managing established client relationships
  • Demonstrate significant working knowledge of federal, state and local environmental regulations and programs
  • Exposure to sensitive information will necessitate considerable use of tact, diplomacy, discretion, and judgment
  • Mentor junior and mid-level technical staff
  • Active pursuit of professional development within a dynamic consulting environment (e.g., conference presentations, journal publications, professional visibility) preferred

 Basic Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in hydrogeology, related degrees may be considered
  • Professional registration(s) preferred
  • 8+ years environmental consulting experience
  • Active participation in professional associations and other organizations a plus
  • OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour certification preferred

 Position Start:     February 2017
